meerecompany (CEO Joon Koo Kim) announced on the 24th that the first robotic surgery using its proprietary surgical robot, Revo-i, was successfully performed at Sanatorio Santa Bárbara Hospital, a general hospital located in Asunción, Paraguay.

The inaugural procedure was a radical prostatectomy performed by urologist Percio Franco. The surgery was successfully completed, and the patient is reportedly recovering in stable condition.

Dr. Franco had previously visited meerecompany’s headquarters for intensive training on the Revo-i robotic system and recently completed additional hands-on training through an on-site program conducted by a team dispatched from the company. This systematic training program is credited as a key factor in the successful outcome of the procedure.

Following the first operation, a total of seven surgeries were carried out within a week, with Revo-i’s application rapidly expanding beyond urology into general surgery. This reflects the hospital’s swift clinical integration of robotic surgery and suggests continued growth in the use of Revo-i moving forward.

Currently, Paraguay operates a public healthcare policy that fully covers the cost of robotic surgeries. This allows patients to access advanced medical technologies like Revo-i without financial burden. As a result, demand for cost-effective surgical robots is expected to increase under such supportive policies.

Ho Kun Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Surgical Robot Division of meerecompany, commented, “We are proud that the first Revo-i surgery in South America was a success. Despite the geographic distance, collaboration between the two countries and our structured training programs enabled a rapid and stable adoption. We hope this successful case in Paraguay paves the way for expansion into neighboring countries such as Uruguay and Argentina.”

meerecompany's Revo-i is the first Korean developed and commercialized surgical robot in Korea. Equipped with high-resolution 3D imaging, a wide field of view, and multi-jointed instruments that enable precise movements, Revo-i allows surgeons to operate with greater ease while patients benefit from minimally invasive procedures that promote faster recovery. These advantages have led to its adoption across various specialties, including obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, urology, and otolaryngology.
