Korean laparoscopic surgical robot, ‘Revo-i’ participates in IRSL 2018

3 sessions of robotic radical prostatectomy demonstrated in Semi-Live Surgery

|Medical Times Reporter Jung Hee Seok| Mereecompany (CEO Kim Joon-Hong) revealed that Korean laparoscopic surgical robot, Revo-i would be participating in the ‘International Robotic Surgery Live 2018•IRSL 2018) held in Yonsei University Severance Hospital from 14th to 15th.

IRSL which is being held for the 12th time this year is a symposium hosted by the Korean Endourological Society and organized by Severance Hospital, is an international symposium pioneering the reinforcement of international status of robotic surgery.

In IRSL 2018, various events such as live surgery session by diverse surgeons, symposium and exhibition of surgical robots will be held.

In particular, Prof. Koon Ho Rha, a urologist from Yonsei University Hospital successfully completed 3 surgeries by using Revo-i in the Semi-Live Robotic prostatectomy on the 14th.

Prof. Rha is one of the most renowned robotic surgery expert who has conducted over 3,000 robotic surgeries including over 2,500 prostate cancer surgeries and 500 renal cancer surgeries since 2015.

In Prof. Koon Ho Rha’s Semi-Live surgery, doctors from various countries besides Korea such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Greece and Taiwan took part as panels, leading to interest and attention in Revo-i.

Revo-i has successfully completed numerous laparoscopic surgeries on patients in clinical tests prior to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s license previously.

In addition, its performance has been proven in the global medical world through live international robotic surgery.

In particular, with South Korea positioned as a mecca of robotic surgery, the proven stability and performance of domestic surgical robot indicate that the adoption and expansion of surgical robots in domestic hospitals as well as potentials in proactive overseas advancement could be expected in the future.

Kim Joon-Hong, CEO of Mereecompany revealed that “Through the live international robotic surgery, we hope that more hospitals would have the opportunity to use surgical robots”.

In addition, he added that “We would engage in active marketing activities so that the benefits and usefulness of robotic surgeries would be expanded in more patients, doctors and hospitals not only in Korea but also around the world.”
